SURF boards are a rare sight in Euroa except if you are a student at Euroa Secondary College enrolled in the right subject.
Wet suits, surf boards, and surf-loving teacher Adrian Bright were all employed during last week for the college's year 11 surf camp.
The opportunity for Euroa students to head to the beach, camp there, and take surfing lessons is rare.
The camp only happens through the school’s and Adrian’s efforts to make the experience available to those students studying Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation.
Adrain has a great love and history of surfing and shares his skills with the students.
“Being able to offer this camp gives the Outdoor Recreation students a whole new perspective on outdoor activities they can be part of,” Adrian said.
“It is made a lot easier to hold this camp as the school now has boards and wetsuits in-house.”
As well as enjoying a fantastic couple of nights camping on the beautiful Victorian south coast, students learn before the camp the importance of safety in the water, how to identify waves, general safety when surfing, and which boards to use and why.
They all had a good grounding before they hit the waves, and once there, put the theory into practice.
They had a ball.
