WITH a variety of sports already available in the community, now there is one more in the mix, soccer.

A local couple from Nagambie, Phil and Anna Close, have recently started Nagambie's very first soccer club.

Phil has had involvement with this sport previously, when he coached children while living in Sweden.

Phil and Anna are aware, as many people are, that soccer, like many other sports, will contribute to the fitness and health of the children and of course, it is great fun.

Due to their enthusiasm, players have come from not only Nagambie but also Euroa and Murchison and it is hoped that this article reaches out to even more youngsters.

With 30 players putting their hands up so far, and many of these children playing soccer for the first time, they have been able to establish three teams - under 6, under 8 and under 12.

To provide greater flexibility with the teams, they are still looking for a few more players for the under 8 age group (the children in this age group would probably be in year 2 and 3 at school.).

Currently all of these teams play in the Shepparton competition on Saturdays and they are really enjoying the experience.

To make this as accessible, to as many children as possible, they are aiming to keep the costs to an absolute minimum and in addition the playing tops are provided free.

Coupled with this, the club is looking for sponsors to help get the club off the ground.

If anyone is interested in supporting this new club, they could check out the Nagambie Soccer Facebook page or contact Phil Close at the Nagambie Primary School.

As a community, we need to get behind this venture and help this group and the children continue to take part in a great sport.
