Mansfield Clay Target Club Competition

THE monthly Mansfield Clay Target Club shoot was held on Sunday in sunny calm conditions with seven squads of 38 competitors attended.

Today's events were the annual Champion of Champions which was followed by a 20 Pair Double rise Championship.

Competitors came from far and wide included club representatives from Alexandra, Benalla, Euroa, Wangaratta, Woods Point, Corowa, Melbourne, Yarrawonga, Echuca, Numurkah and QLD.

The day kicked off with a five target point score eye–opener cash divide with a large field scoring the possible maximum of 15 points and taking their share of the cash.

In AA grade Daniel Chinn (Woods Point), Mick Ward (Woods Point), Chris Scooter Figgins (Yarrawonga), Darren Saunders (Yarrawonga), Terry Walls (Yarrawonga) and Andrew Cameron (Mansfield) competed.

In A grade Mitch Dunnachie (Mansfield), Ken Skinner (Mansfield), Marty McLachlan (Mansfield) and John King (Euroa).

B grade; Geoff Foster (Mansfield), David Luelf (Mansfield), Carson Weingott (Mansfield) and Allan Cole (Numurkah).

Alone in C grade was Rebecca Kirley (Mansfield).

This lead into the main competition of the day, 75 target Champion of Champions, being a mixed bag of targets over three disciplines totalled for a single overall result, all three events were shot off 18 metres.

The first challenge was a 25 target double barrel followed by 25 target single barrel and finally 25 target point score with a maximum overall possible score of 125.

After all squads rotated through a hearty chicken and ham salad feast was served while scores were tallied.

The results being Steve Atkins of Echuca taking overall on 120 and second in AA was Phil Matthews of Boarder CTC on 119.

A grade was Mansfield pair Marty McLachlan 115 and Jason Foster 113.

B grade also went local, David Luelf 115 and Shaun Kirley 108.

Just to keep things in house John Desmond 110 and Steve Wilson 100 brought home the goods for Mansfield.

Following lunch the final competition of the day commenced with 40 targets thrown as 20 pair.

AA grade and overall was Steve Atkins 35 over AA second Angus Cameron 32.

Leonard Quirk of Melbourne took out his first double rise win in A grade with 34 over Mansfield's Phillip Desmond 33.

B grade was a draw between Darren Saunders and Mansfield junior Carson Weingott both 33, after a further 10 pair Darren was victorious by one point on 41/50.

C grade winners were Allan Kidd 28 (Mansfield) and interstate visitor Allan West 27 (Richmond River QLD).

Overall a great day was had by all with shooters and family members all participating to ensure a smoothly run day of competition with everyone chipping in with scoring, refereeing and generally helping out to deliver a smoothly run program.

Mansfield Clay Target Gun hosts the North East Zone shoot the third Sunday of each month with the next shoot to be conducted February 19.

The club is family focused with lunch provided and all junior shoots sponsored by the club with all junior fees waved for all competitions.

Practice is conducted at club grounds each Thursday through daylight savings commencing 4pm, Pikes Road Mansfield.
