The pressure of finals was evident from the first whistle for Violet Town C Grade side.

Despite defeating Murchison by one goal last week, the Towners were not in the same form for finals.

It was a struggle for Towners to get the ball into the goal ring, and when they did, shooters were unable to capitalise, leaving Violet Town down at the first break.

Despite a strong second quarter, which they won by two goals, they still went into halftime 19 down.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Towners unable to settle and score when needed, despite exceptional defensive play creating plenty of chances.

This was a strong effort from Violet Town to make the finals after three seasons without a win.

C Grade looks forward to building on their finals experience in 2026.

Standouts in defence were Thalia Ellis and Ashleigh Bertoli.

SCOREBOARD: Violet Town 25 defeated by Murchison 44.

17 AND UNDER

Playing in the team’s first ever final, the Violet Town girls knew it would be a tough challenge against Merrigum on their home court.

Violet Town got off to a slow start, making errors in attack, which allowed Merrigum to move the ball to their shooters, who performed brilliantly all game.

In the second quarter, Violet Town continued to fight hard in defence, gaining much-needed possession.

Unfortunately, errors in attack continued, giving Merrigum more opportunities to score.

The third quarter saw Violet Town determined not to give up, with some excellent passages of play, finding their shooters and gaining momentum heading into the final quarter.

Overcoming a 12 goal deficit proved too difficult, but to the girls’ credit, they fought until the final whistle.

Well done on reaching the finals and gaining this experience.

SCOREBOARD: Violet Town 23 defeated by Merrigum 38.

Standouts were Ash Antonis and Macey Kubeil.
