A GRADE
Euroa A Grade returned to form with a commanding 71 to 36 win over Rochester, bouncing back strongly from their defeat to Shepparton the previous week.
The team had extra motivation to get the job done, as much loved local identity Eliza Hoare was celebrating her 200th Club game and a significant milestone for a player who has contributed so much to the club both on and off the court.
Olivia Morris was outstanding in goals, netting 57, with support from Samantha Kreltszheim (11) and Sarah Ternes who impressed with three goals in her first A Grade match this season after stepping up for her second match of the day.
The midcourt was a standout, with Hollie Reid and Sami Kreltszheim’s speed and reliability shining through, alongside the always versatile Sophie Owen and Eliza Hoare.
Kellie Davidson was solid in goal defence, playing a smart, composed game alongside Ellie Warnock.
The win consolidates Euroa’s second place on the ladder with a 13 to one record.
With finals fast approaching, Euroa will be hoping to pick up a win against third-placed Seymour on Saturday.
B GRADE
By MOLLY REDFERN
The last time these two teams met, it was an eight-goal win to the Euroa Magpies, suggesting this rematch could be a tight tussle.
The Euroa B grade team took to the court with a different look, not only were they wearing their Indigenous Round dresses, but they also had the welcome addition of former Euroa netballer, Katy Frewen.
The first quarter was goal-for-goal in a fast-paced fashion, so fast that Ruby Watson was caught up in a collision and injured her ankle.
She was carried from the court, with Sienna Trotter stepping into wing defence for her second game of the day.
Something shifted during the huddle in injury time, and the Euroa B graders came out firing.
Their slight two goal lead quickly turned into an 18 goal advantage by half time.
Kelly Hill and Katy Frewen looked as though they had been playing together for years, setting up intercepts and deflections for one another.
Midcourters Millie Watson, Bree Sudomirski, and Sienna Trotter worked the ball down the court and applied pressure relentlessly throughout the game.
Shooters Sarah Ternes, Molly Redfern, and Bree Poole went into beast mode, converting turnovers and shooting accurately from the first to the final whistle.
The final score was 79 to 43 in favour of the Magpies and a strong win for a team that has experienced significant change throughout the season and a great display of teamwork.
On Wednesday, the Magpies travel down the Hume to meet ladder leaders Seymour at Kings Park, where the wind blows icy, the goal rings are bouncy and the competition will be fierce.
BEST PLAYERS: Katy Frewen, Molly Redfern, Bree Sudomirski
B RESERVE
Euroa B Reserve fell just short in a tight match against Rochester, losing 42 to 41 in a hard-fought contest.
Despite the narrow result, there were several positives, including the return of key players.
Bella Ogon rejoined the team after time overseas, Lily Asquith made her long awaited comeback from a knee injury, and Bree Poole returned after a period away due to work commitments.
With recent changes in player availability, it has been a challenging few weeks for the side.
The team is still working to find rhythm and consistency with four rounds remaining, all against finals-bound sides.
Now is the time to hit their straps and return to winning form.
Abbie Ellis was effective through the centre and on the wing.
Bree Poole made a strong impact at both goal attack and goal shooter, while Demi Walker was solid in defence.
In goals, Sienna Trotter led the scoring with 23, supported by Poole with 16 and Annika Sutherland.
With ladder leaders Seymour up next, Euroa will be looking to lift in all areas and deliver a complete performance as finals approach.
BEST PLAYERS: Abbie, Bree, and Demi.
17 AND UNDER
The Euroa 17 and Under team faced a strong Rochester side over the weekend, with both teams showcasing determination and grit throughout all four quarters.
The match got off to a promising start, with Alice Ludlow moving beautifully into space, creating strong leads and opening up play.
Jade Raleigh was a reliable option at the centre pass, helping Euroa transition smoothly through the court.
The first quarter ended with Rochester in front.
During the second quarter, Macey Watson applied fantastic defensive pressure, which paid off with a well-earned intercept.
Evie O'Dwyer continued to be a steady presence, offering great options when the team needed to reset and maintain control; however, Rochester was able to maintain its lead.
In the goal circle, Ella Hill’s positioning was spot on, allowing her to convert with accuracy under pressure.
Marnie Salter complemented this well by working tirelessly around the ring, providing effective support and movement.
At the end of the third quarter, Rochester started to really move away.
As the game wore on, Ruby Fowler continued to find space and presented herself as a strong option for her teammates.
Charli Pittock’s relentless defensive pressure proved crucial in slowing down Rochester’s attacking momentum.
Despite a strong team effort from Euroa, Rochester proved too strong, taking the win with a final score of 63 to 30.
It was a terrific team effort, with each player contributing throughout the game. Charli, Macey, and Marnie were voted best on court.
15 AND UNDER
The Euroa 15 and Under netball team is flying along this season, showing fantastic form despite missing Grace Hill, who injured herself last weekend.
Her return date is still uncertain, but the team stepped up impressively in her absence.
In round 14, Euroa secured a strong 66 to 29 victory, dominating from the first quarter and steadily building their lead throughout the match (17-7, 30-11, 48-21, 66-29).
Goal shooters Avie Hill and Lily Asquith combined for all 66 goals, with Avie contributing an outstanding 42 and Lily adding 24.
The best players on court were Annabelle Ford at goal defence, Molly Fowler at wing attack, and Maisy Wilson at wing defence.
Their work in both attack and defence was crucial to maintaining control and momentum across all four quarters.
Euroa currently sits fifth on the Goulburn Valley League ladder with a nine to five record, despite missing the two Graces, Hill, and McKellar.
The team continues to show resilience and strong teamwork, positioning themselves well for the upcoming rounds.
On Saturday, they face Seymour and will be aiming for another strong performance and a much-needed win to keep their momentum going into the finals.
