A WONDERFUL early spring/late winters day greeted the team as they ran out onto the ground at Mansfield last weekend.
A stiff breeze was blowing to the ‘Mt Buller’ end of the ground yet despite this the home team – kicking against it – booted the first three goals of the match to set the scene for the afternoon.
Euroa had first-gamer Nicholas Hill up from the Reserves along with Brad Gleeson, Declan Redfern and a returning Tom Garside.
Fletcher Paul rucked very well throughout the afternoon, giving his midfield teammates first use of the ball on multiple occasions.
Lachie Hill and Andrew Bell lapped up this supply – their pumping of the ball forward allowing the likes of Brad Gleeson (3 goals) and Jett Trotter (2 goals) to cash in.
Will Creevey, 100 gamer Jayden Gleeson and Nate Stewart battled well throughout the afternoon with the Garside twins Dan and Tom repelling many a Mansfield forward entry.
A few niggling injures throughout the afternoon wilted the Euroa bench somewhat and when Ryan Hill was tackled heavily late in the game the Euroa bench was decimated.
Notwithstanding, coach Pendlebury and assistant coach Poole implored their side to keep doing all the things that had allowed them to qualify for finals in season 2024 – this week needed to be an opportunity to fine-tune their play as a side going into an elimination final against Rochester in Echuca (Sunday, September 1 at 2:30pm).

Best players: Andrew Bell, Lachie Hill, Fletcher Paul, Will Creevey, Jett Trotter
