Avenel Reserves have secured a thrilling win over Shepparton East, edging out their opponents 5.9 (39) to 5.6 (36).

Coach Kane Toohey reflected on the performance, saying, "What a great win by the Swannies.

We played like dogs all day.

But third quarter, the president made some moves."

The goals came from Jai Heers (1), James Hibbens (1), Matthew Lomax (1), Angus Norris (1) and Joel Ryan (1).

Standout performers included Jason Harvey, Lachlan McKenzie, Aaron Gleeson, Joel Ryan, Oscar Loweke and Matthew Lomax.

Avenel will now face Stanhope at their home ground in the next round.

SENIORS

Nagambie Seniors have delivered a strong finals performance, defeating Longwood 14.13 (97) to 10.9 (69).

Tom Barnes and Tyson Chapman were instrumental, each booting four goals, while Trent Laverie contributed two.

Additional goals came from Xavier Arandt, Ryan Coll, Ethan Davis and Mark Nolan.

Longwood’s goal kickers were led by Liam Edwards with four, Jordon Bulman and Rhys Cason with two each, and single goals from Jordan Formosa and Dakota Pellegrino.

A noticeable absence for Longwood was mid season recruit Shane Harvey, who had been in fine form with 19 goals from six games.

Best players for Nagambie included Mark Nolan, Ryan Coll, David Comi, Josh Walker, Tom Barnes and Tyson Chapman.

Longwood’s top performers were Rhys Cason, Jye Formosa, Jordan Formosa, Liam Edwards, Michael Celestin and Brayden Klemke.

One FM noted that Jye Formosa was outstanding for Longwood, being best on ground up until half time.

Nagambie coach Taylor-Llyod urged his players in the first quarter to "use their bodies and lower their eyes when entering the 50 metres," helping the team recover after trailing by five points early.

Nagambie will face a tough challenge against the highly rated Rushworth team, who defeated Shepparton East in their clash.

NETBALL

The KDFL netball finals continued with plenty of excitement across all grades, showcasing some standout performances and tight contests.

Rushworth A Grade continued their strong finals campaign, defeating Georgia Velts Avenel side.

39 to 30 was the end score, too strong for the Swans on the day.

Nagambie A Grade was involved in a nail biter, narrowly beaten by Tallygaroopna 39-42.

Both teams showed great intensity, with Tallygaroopna managing to hold on in the final minutes.

Avenel C Grade edged out Stanhope 34 to 31 in a tight contest, Murchison-Toolamba C Grade dominated Violet Town 44 to 25, showing excellent teamwork and accuracy in attack. Murchison-Toolamba will take on Avenel in C Grade semi final action.

Merrigum 17 and under recorded a strong 38 to 23 win over Violet Town 17 and this week, the 13 and under clash between Shepparton East and Nagambie promises to be an exciting contest
