IT is September and whilst the focus for many is football and netball finals (best wishes to all involved) it also means that the Euroa Bowls Club is gearing up for another big season.
Our northern explorers are starting to return and greenkeeper Ken Sutcliffe along with his team of helpers are hard at work getting the green ready for bowling with the plan for it to be ready for social bowls by Saturday, September 7.
Opening day is the following Saturday (September 14) ) and bowlers are asked to bring a plate for afternoon tea.
Tony Kingma has again been busy pruning in our garden and a working bee has been scheduled for Friday, September 6 commencing at 10am.
The committee for the 2024/25 season comprises Richard Noble (president), Marc Stevens (secretary), Greg Blatchford (treasurer) and board members Libby Byrne, Bill Sargood, Umpire Doug Maconochie, and Brian Bamford.
We have several members filling other volunteer roles including Libby Byrne (catering manager) and Charmaine Reid (bar manager).
We thank all our volunteers for their dedication and commitment to the club.
Weekend pennant selectors are Ken Sutcliffe, Peter Naughton and Umpire Doug with the mid- week pennant selection committee comprising Libby Bryne, Mary Steen and Greg Blatchford.
The respective pennant seasons commence on the Tuesday, October 15 and Saturday, October 19 and at this stage practice matches are against Benalla (October 5) and East Shepparton (October 12).
Like many bowls clubs we face an ongoing challenge to keep our numbers at the required level with father time and personal circumstances having an impact in this regard. New members are always welcome so feel free to come down to the club to check out our facilities and have a roll.
Bowls is a game that can be played by people of all ages and caters for varying skill levels.
In addition, it provides the opportunity to represent our town and socialise with family and friends.
To this end Bill Sargood is looking at arranging a social day for potential new bowlers on Sunday, September 15 commencing at 1pm.
He will be contacting people who have been involved in Business House Bowls or our junior program last year but anyone is welcome to attend.
