Access to the state government’s $400 saving bonus has been questioned in parliament.
Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland asked Minister for Education Ben Carroll how many local students were accessing the bonus.
Ms Cleeland said while the bonus had the potential to ease cost-of-living pressures, families across her electorate were being left behind as it was only available to students at government schools.
“This payment could be a major benefit, but it continues to ignore many of the families in need of support,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Schools in towns like Seymour, Benalla, Euroa, and Nagambie are not elite Melbourne private schools – they are affordable local schools where many students are considered disadvantaged by the Department of Education’s own measures.”
Ms Cleeland also asked how many eligible students in government schools across the Euroa electorate had received the payment, suggesting support may not be reaching families.
“Families deserve clarity on how this scheme is being delivered and who it is really helping,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Once again, regional communities are at risk of being overlooked, and I will continue to push for answers to make sure our families get a fair go.”
