GEOFF was born and raised in Euroa, and always referred to it as home.
Geoff left school at the age of 14 and joined the Post Master General Department, now called Australia Post, as a post boy.
At the age of 17 he went to a PMG training school in Melbourne.
He graduated as a fully trained telegraphist with fluent morse code skills, which lead to working in numerous country towns in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania, including Puckapunyal, Broadford, Mansfield, Tocumwal, Numurkah, Nathalia, whilst always studying to go further in the PMG.
Geoff and his young family went to Cressy in Tasmania as a postmaster for six years, then onto Currie in King Island for six months.
When the family returned to Melbourne, Geoff completed study to become a field inspector for the PMG at the Box Hill Office.
He remained in this role until his retirement.
Retirement led to other pastimes; he worked as a bookmaker's clerk at the races, and took on garden and lawn mowing business.
After a car accident, he decided not to continue driving around the suburbs.
So, fully retired, he started lawn bowling and concentrated solely on cultivating only his home garden at Pakenham on a couple of acres, particularly his vegetable garden. Eventually, he downsized to a property in the quiet town of Garfield and created another magnificent vegetable garden.
We lost Geoff into the world of dementia in 2022.
He went into care at the Opal nursing home in Tyabb, where he received care and support, and was close to family.
Geoff is now walking his beloved hills around Euroa.
