LOCAL Cat Ward has been dealing with spirits for more than 20 years and founded her very own ghost aficionados' organisation eight years ago with three other team members, called Scientific, Paranormal Inquiry Research and Investigation Team (SPIRIT).

Ms Ward is also working full time as kitchen manager at the Euroa Hotel on Railway Street in Euroa, and says she has been noticing very strange events occurring in the old building, built in 1884, and had been running ghost tours with her teams in the hotel.

"For Halloween season, I thought I would tell you a bit more about what we have seen and heard in the hotel," Ms Ward said.

Her passion for supernatural came from her mother, "a very interesting woman who taught her about spirituality".

The SPIRIT team members have been touring in the so said most haunted places of Australia, such as the Old Geelong Gaol, the Beechworth Asylum or the Monte Cristo Historic Homestead, as known as the most haunted house of Australia, so touring in the Euroa Hotel didn't frighten the SPIRIT team.

"I've never been scared of spirits, for me they are neutral entities, or energies," Ms Ward said.

"If I walk into a place and it feels like there's something there, I get a little bit of jelly legs."

She recalls of this time her team and her recorded at night sound from the Euroa Hotel staircase.

"You'll notice, on listening, that there are no voices present, aside from that which I've blank–captioned," she said.

"This is because the team were all elsewhere, well away from the staircase, when this was recorded.

"You'll hear one other voice at the end of the file– this was one of the team returning to the area, and you can hear their footsteps too.

"The voice that precedes that, though, bears no resemblance to that of any of the female team members and I do feel the voice recorded here is female."

Another time, she claims she recorded a voice, "the one of a small child, asking if someone had seen their mum and dad, when no one was in the corridor of the guest aisle".

The guest bedrooms are not rented anymore, and Ms Ward reported that only staff lived sometimes in the accommodations, but "generally left after a very short stay because they felt something was watching them".

Ms Ward also mentioned a night she was staying in the guest aisle of the hotel for research purposes, and got unexpectedly locked out of her hotel room, when she made sure to leave the door open.

Another time, the shower started running by itself two times in the bathroom, without any rational way to explain the phenomenon according to Ms Ward.

"The Euroa Hotel has such a rich history, and for me history goes with supernatural," she said.

"We were sitting chatting in one of the guest rooms with another team member, and all of a sudden we heard a noise, and we go into the bathroom and the shower is running.

"And I had to turn the tap to turn it off again, that happened twice that night."

Ms Ward said she was fascinated by history and old landmarks of Euroa such as the North Eastern.

"I would love to visit it, because I have heard of strange things happening there, but the rooms are closed to the public as the building seems to be on the verge of collapsing," she said.

Ms Ward is looking forward hearing any of your interesting stories you would have heard or haunted places you would have visited.
