Budding anglers can join the Strathbogie-Euroa Angling Club next month at the Euroa Arboretum for a spring morning of excitement.

On 21 September at 9:30-2:20 the club will entice those wanting to fish by supplying a barbecue and refreshments.

Club president Andrew Saville said there would be a range of fish to be pulled from the Arboretum's dam.

"It has been recently stocked with pan-sized trout," Mr Saville said.

"There is also in there some yellow bellies, cod, and even a few catfish."

The Strathbogie-Euroa Angling Club is the oldest fishing club in Victoria, having been started during the first world war.

“We are a very, very old club and we want the younger locals to come out," Mr Saville said.

“It’s a good fun place to go and meet new people; we don’t know how many fish you will to catch out there, but you'll have fun."

The club is always welcoming of new members.

Bait will be supplied (lures and flies can be used) and visitors need to bring their own gear.
