THE Melbourne–bound lanes of the Hume Freeway are closed between Violet Town and Euroa, due to a serious collision.

Motorists are asked to follow the direction of emergency services, detouring through the Violet Town township along Urmston Street, Cowslip Street and Murchison–Violet Town Road.

From Miepol, drivers should take Euroa–Shepparton Road into Euroa and then Euroa Main Road to return to the freeway.

This closure is under Victoria Police control.

VicEmergency alerts suggest that 12 vehicles are responding to the incident.

The road will re–open when investigations are complete and it's safe to do so.

The Department of Transport is assisting emergency services with traffic management and setting up detours.
