Locals braved the icy waters of the Euroa Arboretum dam on Thursday for the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day Dip challenge.

Among the “Dam Dunkers” team of community fundraisers were Jenny Houghton, Jill Taylor, Phil Whitten, Patti Matthews, Brendan Allen, JoAnn Resing, Rachael Buerckner, and the Nationals’ Member for Euroa, Annabelle Cleeland.

Together, the group has raised more than $3500, with family, friends and other supporters cheering them on from the banks.

Ms Cleeland said the event was about more than just a chilly swim.

“Almost one in two Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85,” she said.

“In regional communities like ours, families can also face the added burden of distance, cost, and limited services when trying to access the care and treatment they desperately need.

“Fundraisers like this help drive awareness, provide vital funds for research, and remind those impacted that they are not alone.”

The Euroa dip was one of nearly 9000 held across the country, contributing to almost $2 million raised so far.

In less than 24 hours, Ms Cleeland reached her personal goal of $1000.

She thanked those who donated and supported the cause.

“I’m so grateful to everyone who has donated and to all those who have taken part," she said.

“Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.”
