BOUTIQUE On Binney, a clothing store on Binney Street in Euroa, will close permanently on Friday after the tenants received a lease termination notice, sparking outrage and an outpouring of support for the business on Facebook.

The termination notice, sent last month, gave the tenants six months to vacate the property, while offering the tenants an option to terminate the lease earlier should they choose.

According to the Boutique on Binney Facebook post which announced the store’s closure, the rent was also increased significantly, after the building was purchased by new owners.

This masthead was unable to verify the precise rent increase.

“We are absolutely heartbroken to announce that after nine years, we have been forced to close our Euroa store,” the Facebook post read.

The post said the lease termination notice and rent increase is “leaving us with no choice but to say goodbye to the community we’ve grown to love”.

Euroa Chamber of Commerce president Steph Swift told this masthead she was disappointed.

“This has been a disappointing development for a long-standing, successful store within the street, but also for the overall main street, especially coming into a busier tourism period for the town,” she said.

The store’s final closing day will be on Friday, August 16.

A half-price sale began on August 5.

The Boutique on Binney store in Shepparton will remain open, and the business will continue trading online.

The Facebook post had received 80 comments on the Euroa Community Noticeboard as of Friday last week, with many expressing sadness at the store’s closure and outrage at the lease termination and rent increase.

The landlord declined to comment.
