THE new Strathbogie Shire Council is to be applauded for its erudite decision to support Australia Day.

This day is a day for the nation to reflect upon its significant achievements while giving serious and careful thought to its lows.

Australia Day is a day to proudly celebrate the accomplishments of our people and importantly to respect the stories of others.

As a small nation Australia continues to be the country where people from many other nations want to call home; there are many positive reasons why.

Significantly, the date of January 26, 1949 we were no longer British subjects and Australian Nationality came into existence.

Also, this day is when immigrants who chose to call Australia home received their Australian identity.

Australia has a proud history of democracy and its a nation worth celebrating on January 26.

The next perspicacious step for the Strathbogie Shire Council is to fly ONE flag.

One flag, one nation, one mob.
