VIOLET Town will play Nagambie Saturday week in an elimination final, locked in thanks to a heart breaking three point loss to Shepparton East.

Although Saturday's game against Avenel will be important it will have no bearing for either side, the Swans will finish top the Towners sixth.

The focus will be on Jack Exell who needs just five goals to emulate his father and kick 100 goals in a season in the KDFL.

His four goals with brother in arms Josh Mellington's four nearly got the home side over the line in a low scoring wet day.

Outplaying the Eagles for most of the day and leading by 22 points late in third quarter the home side leaked two late goals to give the momentum to Shepparton East.

A three goal to one last quarter enabled them to snatch victory late; the Towners twice had their opportunities late but didn't take them.

Matt McCarty was brilliant all day, his tough uncompromising attack on the ball led to 39 touches, 22 contested, his partner in crime the raging bull Ollie Ford superb, 33 possessions they gave the opposition a masterclass in wet and slippery conditions.

The two veterans Sean Horsburgh and Tim Ross with 615 games between them tried to will their beloved team over the line.

Sean kicked a great goal had 31 touches and just keeps getting the most out of his body, the "chief" whether forward or back has one gear, full throttle, was hard at it, took some clever marks and like Sean just tried so hard to get his club over the line.
