Carriage conversation hots up

A LIVELY discussion at Tuesday night's council meeting between the Indigo Shire Council mayor and chief executive officer followed an agenda item about the relocation of the historic carriages to the railway goods shed.

The item stemmed from a Beechworth Historical Society and Beechworth Old Cranks Car Club's petition requesting Indigo Shire support for the project.

Mayor Bernard Gaffney raised questions from a report that stated 'the National Trust has considered the goods shed as a location and has ruled it out as an appropriate venue'.

"I've spoken to the CEO of the National Trust, I've spoken to him again today (Tuesday) and he tells me that's not correct," Cr Gaffney said.

Indigo Shire CEO Trevor Ierino has been in discussions with the National Trust in arranging a Memorandum of Understanding for the historic carriages and their location and he said he understood the comment in the report to be true as council understood it...
