Hawks’ big get

NORTH Wangaratta will get the chance to pick one of eight former AFL legends to play a one–off game for the club this season.

The Hawks, along with around 500 clubs from all over Victoria, entered a competition called 'The Carlton Draft' which is an exciting local footy campaign ran by Carlton Draught that will see eight former AFL legends drafted to deserving local footy clubs.

North Wangaratta were one of eight lucky clubs to have succeeded in their application.

Jarryd Roughead, Eddie Betts, Dale Thomas, Nathan Jones, Brendon Goddard, Alex Rance, Shaun Burgoyne and Cam Mooney have all put their hand up to take part in the initiative.

The Carlton Draft will be broadcast live on Fox Footy on April 27, with matchdays to commence from April 30 with all winning clubs assigned a draft pick.

The draft order will be revealed on the night.

"Our club has endured a really tough five years and it's been really challenging for the broader community and our members," North Wangaratta president Allan Ely said.

"We're thrilled with the opportunity to have an AFL legend strap on the boots for this great club."

Four time AFL premiership player and self–confessed AFL legend Roughead showed his support for the campaign.

"For the lucky eight clubs selected to have the opportunity to draft a former AFL legend will be a sight to behold for the local community and all of us draftees can't wait to play a role in bringing the spark back to local footy," Roughead said.
