The Longwood Plains Conservation Management Network (LPCMN) is excited to announce the launch of a year-long BioBlitz across 30 acres on the Longwood Plains.
This initiative invites the community to get hands-on with local ecology through a series of seasonal events and activities, including night surveys, bird counts, botanical surveys, and insect observations.
LPCMN project officer Jemma Norman said the project was made possible from a Landcare grant.
“This project is all about engaging the local community with ecology and biodiversity on the Longwood Plains, as well as upskilling people on how they can capture ecological data on their own properties," Ms Norman said.
As part of the BioBlitz, a dedicated blog will be created to share survey findings and highlight community contributions.
In addition, a live camera feed will offer real-time observation of local species, making the wonders of Longwood Plains accessible to all.
A highlight of the program will be the Insect Discovery Workshop led by renowned naturalist Karen Retra, scheduled for Saturday 15 November 2025.
The workshop will provide participants with practical skills and insights into the diverse insect ecology of Longwood Plains.
Following the interactive session, attendees will apply their new knowledge during a guided field survey within the reserve.
