Mawson’s Bakery Café have been dubbed winners once again after taking out the top three spots in the innovative vanilla slice section at the Merbein Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph.
The competition, held on August 15, features five categories incorporating the national dried vine fruit bake-off.
Four employees from the Mawson’s Bakery Café crew headed off on a six hour drive to Merbein just outside of Mildura on the Murray River.
Mawson’s head baker Rob Beanham took out first prize for his French creation of lemon meringue vanilla slice.
Deb Dowell’s coconut lime vanilla slice was next up in second place and finally Kaitlin Watson came third with a popcorn caramel flavoured vanilla slice.
The café’s clean-up of the innovative slice category sparked local television news interest where they were featured on Win News who filmed there on Wednesday last week.
