STRATHBOGIE Voices has expressed its concern with the 2015/16 council budget and members voiced this at council’s monthly meeting last week.
Representatives of the group, formed to work with council on issues affecting ratepayers, put a number of questions to council during the meeting’s question time.
The group’s concern regarded discrepancies between the original draft budget, released for public review, and the final budget adopted earlier this month.
Spokesperson for the group Alistair Thomson said that although there were positives to come out of the final budget, they were surprised to see the level of changes.
A report of the group’s response to the budget read “Capital works spending was reduced by 16 per cent with $1 million carried over to 2015/16; employment expenses increased by nine per cent and spending on materials and services increased by $545,000.
“Strathbogie Voices believes that the changes to the 2014/15 forecast and the revisions to the 2015/16 were of sufficient magnitude to warrant public comment before the budget was passed.”
