Ratepayers get a fee reprieve

STRATHBOGIE Shire Council will roll out a new organic waste service on July 1, with charges frozen at the previous financial year’s prices.

At a special budget adoption meeting in Nagambie on Tuesday last week, council moved that the $101 service fee for the new bins, outlined in the draft budget, would no longer be charged to ratepayers.

Those who are already receiving a bin service in Euroa, Violet Town, Strathbogie and Nagambie will be delivered a new organic waste bin at $507 per year.

Council has also scrapped the $101 transfer station charge, outlined in the draft budget, which they will absorb.

The cost to council will be $300,000 which they will fund predominantly by reducing loan repayments and secondly from cash reserves.

Councillor Alister Purbrick explained the removal of the extra charge at the special council meeting.
