POLICE around the district will be ensuring driver safety by conducting Operation Regal this Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

The operation aims to increase driver awareness and journey planning while reducing road crashes and associated trauma.

Victoria Police will maintain a highly visible presence on the Hume Highway and other arterial roads over the weekend.

First Constable Dean Arrowsmith of Euroa police said it is anticipated that large amounts of road users will be travelling through the area, enhancing chances of road accidents.

“Annual holiday periods contribute to significant increases in the flow of traffic on the nation’s roads,” he said.

“Road users are exposed to an increased risk of being involved in collisions, often driving long distances in unfamiliar conditions.”
