THE Goulburn Valley Football League (GVFL) Interleague team had a real challenge ahead of them when they took on number one ranking Geelong Football League (GFL) at Deakin Reserve on Saturday, May 23.

Euroa Magpies captain/coach Nathan Gilliland was captain for the day (and contributed one goal to the final score) was the only selection from the Euroa Football Netball Club.

Gilliland said “the GFL was in control for 75 per cent of the game, so GVFL had to work hard just to keep them under control”.

Eventually GFL was able to keep its number one ranking and came out winners by 22 points.

Inaccurate kicking by GFL meant that the defeat could have been even more resounding for the GVFL, with the final scores being GFL – 10.28.88 to GVFL – 9.12.66.

As a result GVFL has now been relegated to third position, which means that in 2016, they will play Ballarat again which will be the third time in six years.
