WITH their first defeat of season 2015 recorded at Echuca the previous week, the Euroa seniors returned to Memorial Oval looking for an improved effort against the ladder leading Rochester Tigers.

With a number of key ins, the Magpies looked to be a better side on paper at least and were looking forward to putting their best foot forward after a pre-game chat from club legend Kevin Storer.

The opening few minutes were a tight struggle with both sides feeling one another out in front of a big crowd that had been swelled with the return of past Euroa players from many different eras of the proud Magpies.

The class of JD Hayes was on show for all to see with his clean long raking left footers continually breaking the lines that Euroa so often struggled to do in their previous game.

With John Ikupu dominating the ruck contests, it was clear that his onballers were going to get first use of the ball more often than not allowing the hosts to take a 31 to 24 lead at the first break.
