A FORUM designed to educate and inform the farming community will be held at the Longwood Community Centre on May 8.

The Farming Futures Forum will focus on succession planning, service/agency support, stock containment areas and more, with expert advice available from the Gecko Clan, the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources (DEDJTR) and the Victorian Farmers’ Federation.

An initiative by Strathbogie health and wellbeing rural outreach worker Ivan Lister and Strathbogie Shire Council deputy mayor Colleen Furlanetto, the free event is the first of its kind to take place for many years.

Cr Furlanetto said the event was designed for industry professionals to touch base with farmers and hear about their issues.

“We’ve had a pretty dry season, not helped by recent fire activity,” she said.

“That’s why we thought it was time to hold an event like this, to show that we all need to be looking out for each other.
