Violet Town community remembers war heroes

MARCH: Over 100 people marched down the main street of Violet Town on Saturday.

RAIN did not dampen the spirits of those who attended the Violet Town Anzac Day services, which had a record crowd of over 200 people.

Violet Town RSL sub-branch president Ross Walker was impressed with the good roll-out at the dawn service, with parents bringing along their young children.

Mere minutes before the dawn service was set to begin, Mr Walker said, the RSL made the decision to move the service into the hall.

“I counted over 200 people at the dawn service, which was just incredible,” he said.

“The 420 Air Cadets from Benalla did a marvellous job.”

At the 10am service, he said, over 100 people marched from the Violet Town Fire Station to the RSL, consisting of RSL members, school children and Country Fire Authority volunteers.
