Councillors meet their ratepayers

A CROWD of 50 attended the first local government forum since the Shire of Strathbogie formed over 20 years ago.

The inaugural Meet the Councillor event, organised by Strathbogie Voices, saw all seven shire councillors (including mayor Deb Swan) and chief executive officer (CEO) Steve Crawcour answer 10 questions raising community concerns.

Held at Euroa’s Wesley Hall last Tuesday night, the forum was designed to be an opportunity for the councillors to be honest and open with local residents about a variety of issues.

Voices chairperson Kate Stothers opened the proceedings saying the questions contained the qualities of a “strong and cohesive community”.

“This community forum will have qualitative in-depth discussions,” she said.

“Our survey shows that 85 per cent of respondents think the work performed by council is not adequate while 15 per cent think they are.”
