Indoor pool is wanted

SHIRE of Strathbogie residents have spoken out about the lack of all year round swimming facilities in their towns.

There are currently only four swimming pools within the shire and all of them (Avenel, Euroa, Nagambie and Violet Town) close during the year.

Last week, several residents, many of whom send their children out of town to either Shepparton, Seymour or Benalla for swimming lessons, voiced their opinions to The Euroa Gazette over a need to see an indoor swimming pool and hydrotherapy pool built in the shire.

The push for a pool has been a talking point among residents for over 20 years, with working groups formed and subsequently disbanded due to lack of funding and ultimately support.

But Euroa Swimming Pool coordinator Geoff Brooks is calling on concerned residents to join him in a revitalised attempt to bring an indoor and hydrotherapy pool to the shire.

“There have been many attempts to fundraise for a heated indoor pool. We’ve held lamington raffles, a truck raffle and more – but it just wasn’t enough,” Mr Brooks said.
