Seven more beds pending at facility

Waiting list puts extra pressure on beds

HAPPY DAYS: Euroa Health deputy chairperson and co-organiser of the Seven Creeks garden fundraisers Jim Perry (left) with CEO Elena McShane and chairman Jim Shovelton at the verandah opening last week.

EUROA Health’s new verandah development will enable the organisation to increase their bed numbers to 75 over the next few months pending a decision by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Currently standing at 68 beds, Euroa Health successfully applied to the Aged Care Approvals Round in 2012 for eight extra beds.

One of these beds was brought online in the existing facility.

It was previously thought the organisation would have to wait until the new building was complete before the extra seven beds could open.

The redevelopment of the verandah area, however, has become part of the space Euroa Health can use to calculate the number of beds they are able to have online.

Chief executive officer Elena McShane said last week that Euroa Health had sought permission from the Department of Health and Human Services to open the seven extra beds as soon as possible.
