WORK is almost complete on a new biofuel production plant at Longwood.

The operation is the brainchild of Longwood farmer Ian Dickson, who has been producing biofuel on a small scale for a number of years.

But shortly after the new year, a steady stream of trucks will deliver loads of canola to the Faithful Road plant, where it will be processed and ultimately produce straight vegetable oil.

Mr Dickson said close to 2000 tonnes of seed was expected to be delivered to the plant every year.

“That amount of seed will produce 1.5 million litres of fuel and about 15 tonnes of stock feed,” Mr Dickson said.

Mr Dickson said most of the fuel would go to Melbourne and to Dubbo where it would be used by a trucking company to run its vehicles.
