DUE to the B grade washout, C grade captain Ben Jones took the opportunity to integrate a number of B grade players into his team alongside the great group of younger players assembled.
With six players 18 or under, the C grade side is a real incubator of tomorrow’s top local cricketers.
The team travelled to Lightfoot oval at Shepparton High School to take on Old Students, and on a soggy synthetic pitch won the toss and decided to bat.
After an aborted start that only lasted three balls because of the slipperiness of the bowlers’ run up, the game got underway properly at closer to 2pm.
The experienced opening pair of Sean Templeton (45) and Michael ‘Doc’ Watson (15) got the team off to another good start in conditions that weren’t ideal for batting, with the dampness in areas causing some balls to skid through low and fast while others would bounce truly.
After Watson was dismissed Jett Trotter (41) came to the crease and he showed that experience doesn’t only come with age as he watched the ball well and chose which balls to dispatch to the boundary hitting six fours and a six.
