Nagambie wins new lease of life

$837k for stage one of main street project

LAKE VIEW: An artist’s impression of how part of Nagambie’s main street will be transformed which will include the installation of a roundabout at the southern end of town.

NAGAMBIE is tipped to become a popular tourism destination after an injection of $500,000 comes its way, as announced by the Deputy Premier of Victoria.

The Nagambie High Street upgrade and streetscape is one step further after Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan announced the Victorian Government’s funding of half a million dollars for Nagambie’s main street, stage one project last week at the Nagambie Comfort Inn.

Mr Ryan explained that the funding will provide for stage one, for work at the southern end of town; for the relocation of basic services, installation of a roundabout to improve traffic accessibility, pavement work and bulk earth works.

The creation of new outdoor dining areas to encourage buses and recreation vehicles to stop in the town would also be part of the works.

There are five other stages planned and funding will be sought for those stages in years to come.

Shire councillors and staff, political candidates, mebmbers of the Nagambie Action Group and Chamber of Commerce, and community representatives were present at the announcement.
