IT’S not every day that two members of the same Euroa-based family are picked to play football among some of the best in the state.
Euroa footballers, friends and twin brothers JD and Will Hayes were both selected to play for the under-19 Energy Safe Victorian Country side to take on the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) in Geelong on Saturday.
However, due to Will’s commitment to the Victorian Football League (VFL), he was unable to join JD in what was a thrilling double win over the VAFA.
The Hayes boys were the only two senior footballers from Euroa who were selected to play during the Magpies’ bye week.
Will, who played his fourth game with the Footscray Bulldogs (senior side) on Saturday, explained he was slowly getting the hang of playing football for a totally different team than he was already used to.
“I went alright on Saturday. They’ve got me playing forward as the 23rd man so I’ve been loving it,” he said.
